Caption | Testes of wild type (A-C) mice reveal densely packed tubuli seminiferi with intact spermatogenesis and ductuli epididymis filled with mature sperm. In Gja1tm7(Gja2)Kwi/Gja1tm7(Gja2)Kwi (D-F) mice, the seminiferous tubules demonstrated absence of mature sperm but a germinal epithelium. The loss of spermiogenesis was indicated by an empty epididymis with less densely packed tubules. Like in wild type (B) immunolabeling of the testosterone receptor revealed the presence of Sertoli (arrows) and Leydig cells in testes of homozygous mutant mice (E). Primary spermatogonia and spermatocytes type 1 (arrowhead) were present but there was no complete spermatogenesis (E). Abbreviations: L: Leydig cells | ||||
