Control section of wild-type testis at postnatal day 90 is shown for comparison (f). Note the fairly normal appearance of germ cells in the mutant until day 45 after birth with spermatocytes and spermatids present in seminiferous tubules (a-d). However, at day 90 the tissue architecture appears grossly disturbed in the mutant, and spermatids are clustered instead of lining the luminal epithelium of the seminiferous tubules (e). In contrast to wild type testis (f), no spermatozoa are present in the mutant.
