Caption Histology of epididymis and testis of Lipetm1Ishi/Lipetm1Ishi mice. When compared with wild-type (+/+), Lipetm1Ishi/Lipetm1Ishi (-/-) epididymis contains no sperm but degenerated spermatocytes and spermatids. The thickness of the epithelial layers of the mutant seminiferous tubules was greatly reduced from 12 to 5-7 layers. The number of mature spermatids was also markedly reduced. Extensive vacuolation was observed in the epithelial cells. Epididymis, x50; Testis, X100.
