Phenotype Image Detail
Image
Caption Phenotype of HrHp/HrHp mice. A: Hair loss and skin folds of 7 and 12 day old wild-type (+/+), HrHp/Hr+ (HrHp/+) and HrHp/HrHp mice. Heterozygous mice had the reduced number of hairs. Homozygous mice had wrinkled skin and no hair. B: Histological features of wild-type, heterozygous and homozygous mice at P7 to P210. Homozygous mice showed abnormal hair follicle (HF) formation as early as P7, with small HFs and canals that did not penetrate the epidermis; these HF became eosinophilic cyst-like structures by P21. The HF morphology of the heterozygous mice was similar to that of wild-type littermates. HFs in heterozygous mice exhibited normal cycling. At an older age (P210), heterozygous mice displayed follicular cyst-like structure (arrowhead) and bent yet normal HFs (arrow), while wild-type mice had normal HFs. The skin of homozygotes was filled with cysts only. Scale bar = 50 um.
