Caption thnh/thnh mouse, upper right; littermate control, lower left. Thin hair mutant mice have a sparse coat discernible by two weeks of age. By three weeks of age, the pelt has fewer zigzag hairs than normal andby four weeks of age, the skin follicles are somewhat dilated with degeneration of the deepest portions of the anagen hair follicles. Hair fragments from degenerating follicles are found in the connective tissue and granulomatous inflammation develops.
