Caption | A whole mount view of wild-type (+/+) and Lmx1btm1Rjo/Lmx1btm1Rjo (-/-) eyes (a) demonstrates iris hypoplasia (arrow) and an irregularly shaped pupil (asterisk). Mallory's trichrome stained sections (boxed areas in b and c are enlarged in d and e) indicate that iris and ciliary body stroma (arrows in d) are present in wild-type mice, but are hypoplastic in mutant mice (e). The anterior chamber (asterisk in d,e) depth is reduced in mutant mice (e). The arrowhead (d,e) indicates that ciliary folds are present in wild-type but are not formed in the mutant. Hematoxylin/eosin stained sections (f,g) illustrate corneal (c) and lens epithelial (le) defects. The area boxed in (f) and (g) is enlarged in (h) and (i). Wild-type lens epithelium is cuboidal in shape (h), while the morphology of these cells is elongated in the mutant (i). Blood cells (bc) are present in mutant corneal stroma (c), and the corneal stroma itself appears to be less dense in comparison to wild-type cornea (h,i). Scale bars = 100um (b-g), while in (h) and (i) scale bars = 50um. | ||||
