Caption Lethal phenotype of Slc30a1tm1Gka/Slc30a1tm1Gka embryos. Slc30a1tm1Gka/Slc30a1+ (Znt1+/-) mice were mated (d1 of pregnancy=vaginal plug) and the conceptus was dissected from the implantation site on the indicated days of pregnancy (d7, d8 or d9) and genotyped by PCR. Heterozygous and Slc30a1tm1Gka/Slc30a1tm1Gka (Znt1-/-) embryos are shown but they have not been dissected free of the extraembryonic tissues. The extraembryonic portion of the embryos is at the top of each panel (if it was possible to distinguish) and the embryos are oriented with the posterior to the right in each panel. The homozygous embryos failed to undergo early morphogenesis and few structural features were noted even at d7 when the egg cylinder is formed. The histology of these embryos was not examined in detail, but by d9 they were amorphous and had failed to develop significantly (bottom right panels).
