Caption | A, aortic root morphology was evaluated in wild-type (+/+) and Fbn1tm1.2Lysa/Fbn1+ (GT-8) littermates at various time points. At 2 months of age, breaks in the elastic lamellae could easily be found in heterozygous mice (arrows). These breaks in the elastic lamellae became more severe by 3 months of age in heterozygous mice. By 9 months of age, breaks in the heterozygous lamellae could be found across whole planes of the aortic wall, resulting in infiltration of blood cells (*) into the smooth muscle media. Scale bars = 100um. | ||||
