Caption | Retinal vascular defects in Igs1tm11(CAG-Bgeo,-Edn2)Nat/Igs1+ Tg(Six3-cre)69Frty/0 (Z/Edn2;Six3-Cre) mice. (A-F) Sections of (A) adult control and (B-F) mutant retinas stained with Toluidine Blue reveal a range of defects that presumably result from hypovascularization, including (B) retinal thinning, (C) disorganization of retinal layers and choroidal neovascularization, (D and E) retinal detachments with accumulation of macrophages in the subretinal space, and (F) retinal folds with subretinal fibrosis and enlarged superficial blood vessels. In these sections and all other retinal sections, the retinal pigment epithelium is at the top, and the ganglion cell layer (GCL) is at the bottom. CV, choroidal vasculature; F, fibrosis; IF, interstitial fluid; M, macrophage; V, vessel. [Scale bar: C (refers to A-F), 100 um.] (G and H) Fresh frozen sections of (G) adult control and (H) mutant retinas stained with GS-lectin (Isolectin B4) visualize the vasculature. The mutant retina lacks intraretinal capillaries, and the superficial vasculature extends from the right only to the midpoint of the image. (Scale bar: 100 um.) | ||||||
