Caption Ablation of Spp1 correlates with reductions in diaphragm and cardiac fibrosis. Micrographs show representative trichrome staining of diaphragms from Dmdmdx/Dmdmdx or Dmdmdx/Y (left panels) and Dmdmdx/Dmdmdx Spp1tm1Blh/Spp1tm1Blh or Dmdmdx/Y Spp1tm1Blh/Spp1tm1Blh (DMM, right panels) animals. The top 2 panels are of 6-month-old mice, whereas bottom 2 panels are of 7-month-old mice. Areas of blue staining indicate proliferation of ECM (i.e., fibrosis), and areas of red staining indicate muscle tissue. Original magnification, x20.
