Sperm displayed an array of aberrant head morphologies (teratospermia), all of which lacked a normal hook characteristic of wild-type sperm heads. (B) Bright-field images of sperm. Bar = 5 um. Mutant sperm have numerous tail abnormalities, including frequent narrowing of the annulus (ii and v). Other defects included heads folded back against the tail (iii), two tails (iv), midpieces folded back against the tail (v), and coiling of the tail around the head (vi).
