(D) H&E staining of the sections from bone marrow located within the femur and spleen of aged wild-type (WT) and Sh2b3^tm1Paw/Sh2b3^tm1Paw (Lnk-/-) mice are shown. Mutant spleens exhibit marked extramedullary hematopoiesis, with disruption of the normal splenic architecture, due to infiltration of mature myeloid cells into the red pulp along with increased numbers of megakaryocytes. Bone marrow of aged mutants shows increased numbers of granulocytic and monocytic cells. Original magnification, x40 (D, center panel); x400 (D, left and right panels).
