Multinucleated symplasts (arrowheads) were frequently observed in the mutant seminiferous epithelium (e). (f-g) Elongating spermatids in wild-type (Katnal2^WT/WT) versus mutant mice. Abnormal nuclear (club-shaped) morphology of spermatids (arrowheads) was frequently observed in mutant mice. (h-i) Spermiation in WT versus mutant mice. At the cessation of spermatogenesis, retained elongated spermatids (arrowheads) were frequently observed in stage IX tubules of mutants (i) but were rarely observed in WT (h) mice. (j-l) Cauda epididymal sperm morphology in WT and mutant mice. Mutant sperm frequently displayed abnormal (asterisk) or absent (arrowheads) mitochondrial mid-pieces.
