  Through analysis of overlapping clones, the authors physically mapped 3 copies of the Lv locus on mouse Chromosome 4 in a head to tail orientation in BALB/c and many M.m. domesticus strains. SM/J, M. spretus, M. caroli, M.m. castaneus, M. musculus and C57BL/6J strains were used to contain only one copy of the gene.
