  Linkage analysis of the Hx mutation using 1570 backcross progeny from an intersubspecific cross has mapped the candidate gene to a 0.6 cM segment on mouse Chromosome 5. One of the recombinants separated the coding region of Shh from the Hx phenotype ruling out Shh as a candidate for the Hx gene. The authors also isolated a 1.2 Mb YAC clone containing the Shh and Hx genes.
