A 490kb YAC clone containing S100a1, S100a3, S100a4, S100a5, S100a6, S100a8, S100a9 and S100a13 was isolated. This clone was analyzed by restriction enzyme digestion to determine the order of the genes. S100a3, S100a4, S100a5 and S100a6 were localized within a small stretch of 35kb near the right arm of the YAC. The order of these genes with respect to each other was not determined. S100a1 was placed 70 - 120kb of the left arm of the YAC. Similarly, S100a8 and S100a9 were placed as neighbors at a maximaldistance of 45kb within the first 70 - 155kb of the left arm of the YAC. S100a13 was assigned at least 170kb away from S100a1 and about 110kb from S100a6. S100a4 and S100a6 have previously been assigned to mosue Chromosome 3. The S100 cluster listed herewas localized to mouse Chromosome 3. This is consistent with the result obtained by FISH analysis as well.
