[(129/SvEv x C57BL/6)F1 x C57BL/6] and [(129/SvEv x BALB/cJ)F1 x BALB/cJ} backcrosses were set up to follow the segregation of Gv1. Nuclease protection data from 230 animals from the backross was collected using the polymorphic LTR riboprobe. Analysis ofthe data was consistent with the segregation of a single gene. The nuclease protection data and backcross mapping data from the C57BL/6 backcross were combined and analyzed as a QTL. The highest LOD score was obtained around the chromosomal position of D13Nimr1 and D13Mit39, suggesting strong linkage between a locus at approximately 37 cM on mouse Chromosome 13 confirming the map location derived from the haplotype data. Candidate genes in the region include Mdac, Rsl, Zfp68-rs1, Zfp71-rs1 and Zfp85-rs1.
