  The Fts phenotype is the result of a several hundred kilobase deletion on mouse Chromosome 8 as a result of transgene integration. A BAC clone containing a 170kb insert which was completely deleted was identified. Exon trapping analysis followed by RT-PCR resulted in the identification of a gene spanning at least 250kb. This gene was named Fatso and given the symbol Fto.
