Notes
  • Experiment
194 mice from a (C57BL/6J c2J x BALB/cByJ)F1 x C57BL/6J c2J backcross were informative in mapping a QTL (Mord1) to mouse Chromosome 3. Mord1 determines the thickness of the outer nuclear layer of the retina after exposure to prolonged light. Mord1 mapped highly significantly with marker D3Mit19 with a LOD score of 19.3. Moreover QTLs for the phenotype were also associated, although less significantly, with markers on mouse Chromosomes 14, 9 and 12. Importantly mouse marker Rpe65 also cosegregated with D3Mit9 in the cross. Rpe65 is involved in the visual cycle. An amino acid difference in Rpe65 between the mapping progenitor strains suggests that Rpe65 may be a good candidate for the Mord1 QTL on mouse Chromosome 3.
