  A locus for Whl was mapped to mouse Chromosome 4 by taking advantage of a partially congenic line derived by backcrosses of a BALB/cJ Whl donor to a C57BL/6J recipiant. Mice were then tested for heterozygosity of BALB/c and C57BL/6J alleles at PCR based markers. A significant association with no recombination of the mutant phenotype with Chromosome 4 markers D4Mit264 and D4Mit235 was observed. This region is within a 1.1 cM region flanked proximally by D4Mit104 and distally by D4Mit181. In addition to Whl mouse marker Epha7 also mapped to the 1.1 cM interval.
