Notes
  • Experiment
Two F2 intercrosses [(C57BL/6J Ifng-/- x 129/Sv)F2 and (C57BL/6J x 129/Sv Ifngr-/-)F2] were used to map a locus, Tmevd5 (LOD = 4.8 with D11Mit179), on mouse Chromosome 11 (33.4 cM - 47.7 cM) influencing the severity of demyelinating disease caused by Theiler's virus. C57BL/6J Ifng-/- is less susceptible to viral infection and disease-related symptoms than 129/Sv Ifngr-/-. 45 days post-inoculation with Theiler's virus, animals from both F2 crosses showed a higher viral load than animals from either parental strain (C57BL/6J Ifng-/- or 129/Sv Ifngr-/-). Tmevd5 was identified in the (C57BL/6J x 129/Sv Ifngr-/-)F2 cross using both male and female mice. Further analysis revealed a suggestive locus influencing disease severity in female mice on Chromosome 19 linked to D19Mit65 (LOD = 2.9), D19Mit119 (LOD = 2.9), and D19Mit83 (LOD = 2.6).
