841 male mice 56-125 days of ages from 20 BXD/Ty RI strains were used to map QTLs associated with ethanol-induced conditioned taste aversion behavior. Inbred strain DBA/2J exhibits increased sensitivity to ethanol compared to C57BL/6J and decreases consumption of an ethanol-paired distinctive taste (ethanol-induced taste aversion) in a dose dependent manner. Saccharin solution drinking water was used as the paired taste in this study. Etohcta2 (P<0.01) mapped to a region of Chromosome 2 spanning 19.5 cM - 30.0 cM in linkage with Rmp2 (23.5 cM) and Rmp3 (19.5 cM). *Editor's Note: current position of Rmp3 on MGI is mouse chromosome 17, 19.5 cM* Etohcta2 is associated with ethanol-induced taste aversion at high-dose ethanol injection following the paired taste. A QTL involved in ethanol-related acute withdrawal appears to overlap Etohcta2. Taste1 (P<0.01 at D2Mit379) and Taste2 (P<0.01 at Epb4.2) mapped to 38.3 cM and 67 cM on Chromosome 2, respectively, and are associated with saccharin preference. Cons1 (P<0.01) is linked to D2Ncvs43 on Chromosome 2 at an unknown location and is associated with preconditioned saccharin intake.
