841 male mice 56-125 days of ages from 20 BXD/Ty RI strains were used to map QTLs associated with ethanol-induced conditioned taste aversion behavior. Inbred strain DBA/2J exhibits increased sensitivity to ethanol compared to C57BL/6J and decreases consumption of an ethanol-paired distinctive taste (ethanol-induced taste aversion) in a dose dependent manner. Saccharin solution drinking water was used as the paired taste in this study. Etohcta6 (P<0.01 at D6Mit13a; 63.6 cM) mapped to a region on Chromosome 6 spanning 48cM - 64 cM. Etohcta6 is associated with ethanol-induced taste aversion at high-dose ethanol injection following the paired taste. Taste5 (P<0.01 at D6Bir2; 48 cM) mapped to a region on Chromosome 6 spanning 45.5 cM - 63.0 cM and is associated with saccharin preference. Taste5 overlaps bitterness tasting genes Cyx (50 cM), Qui (50.5 cM), Rua (51 cM), and Soa (63 cM), which may be responsible for this QTL.
