Notes
  • Experiment
12 BXH/Ty RI (recombinant inbred) strains were typed at 212 loci at an average spacing of 7 cM to identify QTLs involved in bitterness avoidance. C57BL/6J (B) parental strain exhibits strong bitterness aversion to quinine sulfate and PROP (6-n-propyl-thiouracil) while C3H/HeJ (C) parental strain is indifferent. 6 bitterness sensitivity loci (Taste7-Taste12) achieving a threshold of P<0.01 mapped to 4 different mouse Chromosomes. Taste7 maps to 72 cM on mouse chromosome 3 near Mpmv9. Taste8 maps to 49.5 cM on mouse chromosome 6 near Ea10. Taste9 also maps to chromosome 6 at 63 cM near Prp and shows the strongest association to bitterness sensitivity. A cluster of bitterness-aversion loci, Cyx (50 cM), Qui (50.5 cM) and Rua (51 cM) are found near Taste9. Taste10 maps to 32 cM on mouse Chromosome 8 near Cpe. Taste11 and Taste12 map to mouse Chromosome 9 at 42 cM near D9Mit8 and 48 cM near D9Mit9, respectively.
