Authors localized Bw19, a QTL affecting body weight at 10 weeks, to mouse Chromosome X at approximately 14.1 cM-27.8 cM flanked by DXMit50 and DXMit25. Bw19 was localized by backcrossing (HI x LI)F1 to LI for 6 generations (HI=high body weight inbred line, LI = low body weight inbred line). Overlapping segments of mouse chromosome X from HI donor strain on LI recipient strain background was established in several animals and association between alleles on X chromosome segments and body weight was analyzed. The authors conclude there is a significant association between the proximal end of mouse Chromosome X and body weight at 6 and 10 weeks of age in male and female animals.
