Authors performed meta-analysis for alcohol preference QTLs reported across several studies using C57BL/6J and DBA/2J inbred strains. C57BL/6J exhibits strong preference for alcohol whereas DBA/2J exhibits strong avoidance of alcohol. Several regions of the mouse genome are consistently associated with the alcohol preference phenotype. Alcp1, Ap2q, Etohc1, and Etohc2 map to the proximal to mid region of mouse Chromosome 2. There is evidence of dominance effects of DBA/2J-derived alleles in this region. Ap5q and Etohc3 map to the proximal to mid region of mouse Chromosome 9 and the C57BL/6J-derived allele exhibits dominance at these loci. Ap3q maps to distal mouse Chromosome 4 with C57BL/6J-derived alleles exhibiting dominance, and Alcp3 and Letohc1 map to the mid to distal region of mouse Chromosome 3 with male-specific additive inheritance.
