The authors isolated two mouse BACs RP23-163B8 and RP23-162H18 that contained the Obox1 and Obox2 genes. Sequence analysis of the contigs from the two BACs also identified the presence of two other homologous genes, Obox3 and Obox4. Obox1 and Obox2 are present on overlapping BACs and are separated by an estimated 56kb. Subsequent sequence analysis with the Obox1 gene identified the related genes, Obox5 and Obox6 on the BAC RP23-116J6. This BAC also contained the Crx gene that had previously been mapped to Chromosome 7, thereby mapping the Obox5 and Obox6 genes to Chromosome 7 as well.
