Notes
  • Experiment
Pbw2, a QTL previously reported with suggestive linkage to pentobarbital (PB) withdrawal, was confirmed using the short DNA segment (SDS) strain D2.B6-Mpdz. The D2.B6-Mpdz strain carries a short C57BL/6J-derived region from D4Mit80 (37.7 cM) - Mpdz (38.6cM) on a DBA/2J genetic background. Parental strain DBA/2J exhibits severe PB withdrawal symptoms compared to donor strain C57BL/6J. D2.B6-Mpdz animals exhibit significantly less severe PB withdrawal compared to DBA/2J animals (LOD=5.6) thus confirming the existence of Pbw2. Pbw2 maps to the same <1 cM interval as Alcw2 and may be controlled by the same gene(s). Mpdz, a strong candidate gene for Alcw2, is also a viable candidate gene for Pbw2.
