Notes
  • Experiment
119 polymorphic markers were screened in 633 (MRL/MpJ x SJL/J)F2 female animals to detect loci associated with femur bone mineral density. 7-week old female animals were used for the study. Fembrs4 was identified on mouse Chromosome 17 with LOD=6 at D17Mit175. Fembrs4 also shows significant linkage to femur breaking strength (LOD=8.3) and other traits, such as body weight and femur length, suggesting pleiotropic effects. MRL/MpJ-derived alleles confer increased bone strength with recessive inheritance atFembrs4. A possible candidate gene for Fembrs4 is Map3k4.
