Notes
  • Experiment
Tnfsf4 was originally discovered as a difference between C3H/HeJ and C57BL/6J. In an attempt to determine the gene responsible for Tnfsf4 C57BL/6J - SPRETUS/EiJ congenic was constructed with markers that were about 14 cM apart, D1Mit14 and D1Mit356. 605 backcross progeny from the N5 incipient congenic derived from SPRETUS/EiJ were tested for recombination events between D1Mit14 and D1Mit356. Of the 605 backcross mice a reported 44 recombinants between D1Mit14 and D1Mit356 were found, with 14 of the crossovers
between D1Mit14 and D1Mit110 (2.31 cM), 19 crossovers between D1Mit110 and D1Mit112 (3.14 cM), and 11 crossovers between D1Mit112 and D1Mit356 (1.81 cM). The authors indicated that the atherosclerosis susceptibility gene resides in the subregionbetween D1Mit14 to D1Mit110. The authors indicated that 12 genes lie within the Ath1 region. One Candiditate gene Prdx5 (Aol1) was tested more extensively. Prdx5 may confer resistance to strains C3H or BALB/c by an amino acid change and to SPRET by an expression difference.
