    For mapping studies intersubspecific matings between females with the homozygous Hag (curly tail) and wild type males of the CAST/Ei strain were made .The F1 Mice from these crosses had either the curly haired or wild phenotypes.However Hag homozygousmice produce another phenotype similar but not the same as curly haired. To recover all the genotypes, intercrossed F1 animals of the two kinds were constructed (i.e., wild type x wild type and curly haired x curly haired) which produced 413 F2 mice.Among these offspring, 120 exhibited a phenotype that was somewhat different then curly tail, 73 exhibited the curly haired phenotype, and 220 were wild type. The cross described her includes the 220 wild type mice.F1 direction known.
