A genetic cross was initiated to find the location of the Loa mutation in mouse. Loa arose through a mutatgenesis experiment and is inherited as an autosomal dominate. Dnchc1Loa/+ mice were crossed to C57BL/6J animals to produce F1s. The F1 progeny were then backcrossed to C57BL/6J mice and N2 affected animals were analyzed. Dync1h1 was determined to reside between markers D12Mit181 and D12Mit17. In 1091 N2 mice the distance between the aformentioned markers containing the Loa mutations was estimated at 1.5 +/- 0.4 cM. The mapping of Dync1h1 within the two markers provided the framework for the physical mapping of the region.
