    A single homozygous C57BL/6-jsd/jsd female was crossed to a C3H male to obtain B6C3H jsd/+ F1s. These were then intercrossed to obtain F2s. F2 females homozygous for the B6 allele at all loci were selected as homozygous jsd/jsd breeder females and mated with B6C3H F1 jsd/+ males to produce a backcross mapping panel. A total of 31 F2 and 259 backcross males were phenotyped and genotyped. Analysis of the data placed jsd in a 10 cM interval between the markers D1Mit181 and D1Mit415, with a locus order of D1Mit213 - D1Mit76 - D1Mit282 - D1Mit181 - jsd - D1Mit415 - D1Mit94.

    An additional 787 backcross males were typed between D1Mit181 and D1Mit415. 20 mice were found to recombinant between these two markers. Additional polymorphic markers were used in this interval to refine the jsd region. Further analysis placed jsd distal to D1Mit215 but proximal to 1700016L21Rik. This represents a genetic distance of 0.4 cM.
