Notes
  • Experiment
Genome scan using 119 polymorphic markers was performed on 633 (MRL/MpJ x SJL/J)F2 animals to identify QTLs associated with bone mineral density (BMD). Parental strain MRL/MpJ exhibits greater BMD compared to parental strain SJL/J. Two different methods,PIXIMUS and pQCT were used in the analysis.

Seven QTLs for total body bone mineral density (Tbbmd) were identified. Tbbmd1 mapped to mouse Chromosome 1 with peak linkage at D1Mit362 (110.4 cM, LOD=5.9). Tbbmd1 is also associated with femur BMD. Tbbmd2 and Tbbmd3 mapped to mouse Chromosome 2 with peak linkage at D2Mit62 (54.6 cM, LOD=5), and D2Mit263 (78.7 cM, LOD=7.2), respectively. Tbbmd4 mapped to mouse Chromosome 9 with peak linkage between D9Mit270 and D9Mit182 (43 cM - 55 cM, LOD=4.4). Tbbmd5 mappedto mouse Chromosome 11 with peak linkage at D11Mit36 (43.7 cM, LOD=6.8). Tbbmd6 mapped to mouse Chromosome 14 with peak linkage at D14Mit194 (52.5 cM, LOD=4.5). Tbbmd7 mapped to mouse Chromosome 17 with peak linkage at D17Mit175 (6.6 cM, LOD=5.8).

Suggestive loci with LOD scores < 3.5 mapped to chromosome 3 at D3Mit217 (43.7 cM), chromosome 12 at D12Mit201 (23 cM), chromosome 15 at D15Mit179 (7.7 cM), and chromosome 18 at D18Mit152 (25.1 cM). Loci at chromosomes 12 and 18 are associated with femur BMD.
