Notes
  • Experiment
Linkage analysis was performed on 633 (MRL/MpJ x SJL/J)F2 animals using 137 polymorphic markers at an average spacing of 12 cM to identify QTLs associated with periosteal circumference (PC). Parental strain MRL/MpJ exhibits greater PC compared to parental strain SJL/J. (MRL/MpJ x SJL/J)F1 hybrids exhibit increased PC similar to that of the MRL/MpJ parent. Five QTLs showed significant linkage (LOD>3.5) to periosteal circumference (Pcir1-5) and 4 QTLs showed significant linkage to periosteal circumference and femur length (Pcfm1-4).

Pcir1 maps to 82 cM on mouse Chromosome 1 with LOD=7.7 at D1Mit33.

Pcir2 maps to 43.7 cM on mouse Chromosome 11 with LOD=3.53 at D11Mit36 and also shows linkage to body weight (LOD=3.25), muscle size (LOD=4.28), and body length (LOD=3.28). Possible candidate genes mapping near Pcir2 are the Hoxb genes 1-9, Wnt3, Wnt9b, Stat3, Stat5a, and Stat5b.

Pcir3 maps to 33.4 cM on mouse Chromosome 15 with LOD=6.2 at D15Mit62.

    Pcir4 maps to 17 cM on mouse Chromosome 17 with LOD=4.1at D17Mit175.

Pcir5 maps to 18.6 cM on mouse Chromosome X with LOD=5.1 at DXMit208. Pcir5 shows epistatic interaction with loci at D1Mit44 (linked to body weight), D2Mit62 (linked to body weight), D2Mit44, and Pcfm2.

    Pcfm1 and Pcfm2 map to 15.3 cM and59 cM on mouse Chromosome 2, respectively. Pcfm1 gives LOD=5.4 at D2Mit32 and Pcfm2 gives LOD=4.9 at D2Mit304.

Pcfm3 maps to 37.2 cM on mouse Chromosome 3 with LOD=3.9 at D3Mit213..

Pcfm4 maps to 26.2 cM on mouse Chromosome 5 with LOD=5.4 at D5Mit302.
