  • Experiment
146 (IP2 x IR1)F2 animals were genotyped at 82 polymorphic loci at a 20 cM resolution to identify QTLs associated with alcohol withdrawal severity. The IP2 (withdrawal prone) and IR1 (withdrawal resistant) inbred strains are derived from WSP (withdrawal prone) and WSR (withdrawal resistant) strains, respectively, after 20 generations of brother-sister mating.

A male-specific locus mapped to mouse Chromosome 11 from 15 cM - 36 cM with peak linkage at D11Mit203 (LOD=5.7 in male animals). This locus colocalizes with Alcp3 and may represent the same QTL. Candidate genes in this region include Gabra6, Gabrb2, and Gabrg2. This locus explains 12% of the phenotypic variance.

Alcw5 mapped to mouse Chromosome 1 from 28 cM - 47 cM with peak linkage at D1Mit46 (LOD=6.5). This locus explains 7% of the phenotypic variance.

Alcw6 mapped to mouse Chromosome 8 from 16 cM - 43 cM with peak linkage at D8Mit4 (LOD=3.5). This locus explains 4% of the phenotypic variance.

Alcw7 mapped to mouse Chromosome 14 from 24 cM - 48 cM with peak linkage at D14Mit160 (LOD=4.2). This locus explains 5% of the phenotypic variance.
