  Sequence analysis and PCR amplification of sequences in BAC 338J7, carrying mouse Chromosome X genomic DNA, determined that the deletion mutation in Hyp mice begins somewhere in intron 15 of Phex and extends past the end of the gene into the intergenic region between Phex and downstream gene Sat1. The sequence of Sat1 is intact as determined by PCR amplification of genomic DNA and RT-PCR amplification of renal mRNA.
