In this study the authors reanalyzed a population of (LG/J x SM/J)F2 animals to identify QTLs associated with growth trajectory that is different between the sexes. Parental inbred strain LG/J exhibits a larger body size than SM/J. Males show a significantly different growth pattern compared to females and are heavier than females at all time points measured. Four statistically significant loci were identified which show linkage to genotype-sex interactions with respect to growth. These QTLs have an effect after 3-4 weeks of age.

Grwtj1 (growth trajectory 1) maps to 26 cM on mouse Chromosome 6. Grwtj1 appears to have partial or codominant effect in females and an overdominant effect in males. (Male heterozygotes outgrow homozygous males of either genotype.)G rwtj1 maps near growth QTL Bgeq4 (46.3 cM) identified in the original study by Vaughn et al, 1999.

Grwtj2 maps to 42 cM on mouse Chromosome 7. G rwtj2 maps near growth QTL Bglq6 (50 cM) identified in the original study by Vaughn et al, 1999.

Grwtj3 maps to 26 cM on mouse Chromosome 11. Grwtj3 appears to have a dominant effect in males only.

Grwtj4 maps to 36 cM on mouse Chromosome 15.
