Notes
  • Experiment
Linkage analysis was performed on 439 pregnant female animals from a (M16i x L6)F2 intercross to identify QTLs associated with reproductive traits. Parental strain M16i exhibits a higher ovulation rate and higher number of live fetuses at 10 weeks of gestation compared to L6, but parental strain L6 exhibits increased total fetal survival rate compared to M16i.

On mouse Chromosome 1, linkage to total embryo survival mapped to 41 cM (LOD=3.5). This locus is named Estoq4 (embryo survival total QTL 4). The QTL interval of Estoq4 spans 29.8 cM - 49.5 cM and is flanked by markers D1Mit180 and D1Mit72. M16i-derived alleles confer decreased total embryo survival at Estoq4.
