  • Experiment
Linkage analysis was performed on 439 pregnant female animals from a (M16i x L6)F2 intercross to identify QTLs associated with reproductive traits. Parental strain M16i exhibits a higher ovulation rate and higher number of live fetuses at 10 weeks of gestation compared to L6, but parental strain L6 exhibits increased total fetal survival rate compared to M16i.

On mouse Chromosome 8, linkage to ovulation rate mapped to 24.9 cM (Orq3, LOD=3.4) and 46.3 cM (Orq1, LOD=3.5). The QTL interval of Orq3 (ovulation rate QTL 3) spans 14 cM - 33 cM and is flanked by markers D8Mit4 and D8Mit31. The QTL interval of Oriq1 spans 33 cM - 55.5 cM and is flanked by markers D8Mit31 and D8Mit121. M16i-derived alleles confer additively inherited increased ovulation rate at Orq3 and Orq1.
