Notes
  • Experiment
487 animals from a heterogeneous stock designated UM-HET3 were analyzed for bone (femur) geometry traits. UM-HET3 is derived from a cross between (BALB/cJ x C57BL/6J)F1 x (C3H/HeJ x DBA/2J)F1. 99 polymorphic markers at an average spacing of 15 cM - 20 cMwere used in the genome scan. Nine geometric traits were evaluated for each femur.

Linkage to average outer fiber length (AveOFL) and medial/lateral axis bending moment of inertia (Iml) mapped to 58.6 cM near D6Mit216. This locus is designated Fmgty5. BALB/cJ-derived alleles confer increased AveOFL and Iml compared to C57BL/6J-derived alleles.
