Notes
  • Experiment
487 animals from a heterogeneous stock designated UM-HET3 were analyzed for bone (femur) geometry traits. UM-HET3 is derived from a cross between (BALB/cJ x C57BL/6J)F1 x (C3H/HeJ x DBA/2J)F1. 99 polymorphic markers at an average spacing of 15 cM - 20 cM were used in the genome scan. Nine geometric traits were evaluated for each femur.

Linkage to cross sectional area (CSA), standard deviation of outer fiber length (StdOFL), and anterior/posterior bending moment of inertia (Iap) map to 41 cM on mouse Chromosome 8 near D8Mit51. This locus is designated Fmgty7. DBA/2J-derived alleles confer increased Iap, StdOFL, and CSA compared to C3H/HeJ-derived alleles.
