Notes
  • Experiment
487 animals from a heterogeneous stock designated UM-HET3 were analyzed for bone (femur) geometry traits. UM-HET3 is derived from a cross between (BALB/cJ x C57BL/6J)F1 x (C3H/HeJ x DBA/2J)F1. 99 polymorphic markers at an average spacing of 15 cM - 20 cM were used in the genome scan. Nine geometric traits were evaluated for each femur.

Linkage to minimum outer fiber length (MinOFL), maximum outer fiber length (MaxOFL), average outer fiber length (AveOFL), medial/lateral axis bending moment of inertia (Iml), and anterior/posterior bending moment of inertia (Iap) map to 11.7 cM on mouse Chromosome 17 near D17Mit46. This locus is designated Fmgty14. C57BL/6J-derived alleles confer increased MinOFL, MaxOFL, AveOFL, Iml, and Iap compared to BALB/cJ-derived alleles.
