Linkage analysis was performed on 115 (CBA/JNCrj x C3H/HeNCrj)F1 x C3H/HeNCrj backcross animals to identify QTLs associated with coronary arteritis. Parental strain C3H/HeNCrj is susceptible to arteritis and serves as a mouse model for Kawasaki disease. Arteritis was induced in 4-week old male backcross animals by intraperitoneal injection with Candida albicans-derived substances (CADS). 250 microsatellite markers were used for the genome scan.

Suggestive linkage to arteritis mapped to 20.2 cM on mouse Chromosome 1 between D1Mit171 and D1Mit245 (P=0.0019). Two potential candidate genes mapping to this region are Il1r1 and Il1r2.
