QTLs linked to the trans regulation of genes involved in the corticotropin-releasing factor system were mapped using male animals from 28 BXD recombinant inbred lines (B=C57BL/6J; D=DBA/2J). Transcript abundance of Crh, Crhr1, Crhbp, and Avp were used asquantitative traits. Parental strain DBA/2J exhibits lower transcript abundance of all 4 genes compared to parental strain C57BL/6J. A panel of 975 polymorphic loci was used for linkage analysis.

Significant linkage to Avp expression mapped to 1 cM on mouse Chromosome 7. This locus is named Avptaq1 (Avp transcript abundance QTL 1), and the 95% confidence interval spans 14 cM. Mprf (0.5 cM) is a previously identified QTL mapping near Avptaq1. Significant linkage to Crhr1 expression maps to 1.5 cM near D7Mit168 and may represent the same locus as Avptaq1. However, the 95% confidence interval for Crhr1 expression spans 39 cM. We shall designate a separate symbol, Crhr1taq1 (Crhr1 transcript abundance QTL 1), for this QTL at the present time. Suggestivelinkage to Crhbp expression maps to 48.5 cM near D7Mit321.
