Notes
  • Experiment
Linkage analysis was performed using 24 BXD recombinant inbred (RI) strains to identify QTLs associated with peak whole body bone mineral density (B=C57BL/6J; D=DBA/2J). Significant linkage was detected on mouse Chromosomes 1, 2, 4 and 11.

On mouse Chromosome 1, peak linkage occurs at 101.5 cM near D1Mit291 with a LOD score of 6.2. This locus is named Pbmd1 (peak bone mineral density 1) and shows synteny to human Chromosome 1q12-q43.

On mouse Chromosome 2, peak linkage occurs at 48.1 near D2Mit94 witha LOD score of 11. This locus is named Pbmd2 (peak bone mineral density 2) and shows synteny to human Chromosome 2q21-q32 and 11p-q12. Pbmd2 coincides with a previously identified QTL named Bomd3 (48 cM).

On mouse Chromosome 4, peak linkage occurs at 69.8 cM near D4Mit312 with a LOD score of 12.3. This locus is named Pbmd3 (peak bone mineral density 3) and shows synteny to human Chromosome 1p36.3-p34.1.

On mouse Chromosome 11, peak linkage occurs at 32 cM near D11Mit349 with a LOD score of 10.1. This locus is named Pbmd4 (peak bone mineral density 4) and shows synteny to human Chromosome 5q31-q35 and 7p13-p22.
