Notes
  • Experiment
Linkage analysis was performed on 513 animals from a (SM/J x NZB/BlNJ)F2 intercross to identify QTL affecting obesity traits. Animals were placed on an atherogenic diet for 16 weeks before phenotyping. Parental strain SM/J exhibits smaller body size but higher adiposity compared to parental strain NZB/BlNJ.

On mouse Chromosome 5, Adip13 maps to 26 cM near D5Mit81 (LOD=2.9) with a 95% confidence interval spanning 8 cM - 44 cM. NZB/BlNJ-derived alleles at Adip13 confer increased gonadal fat pad weight with an additive mode of inheritance. Nobq1 (28 cM) andObq11 (10 cM) are previously identified obesity QTL mapping near the Adip13 interval.

Obwq2 maps to 44 cM near D5Mit204 (LOD=3.7) with the 95% confidence interval spanning approximately 16 cM - 66 cM.NZB/BlNJ-derived alleles at Obwq2 confer increased body weight and inguinal and gonadal fat pad weights with a dominant mode of inheritance. Previously identified QTL mapping near Obwq2 are Nobq1 (28 cM) and Obq11 (10 cM).
