Suggestive linkage to serum adiponectin mapped to 2 loci on mouse Chromosome 7 in 10 SMXA (SM=SM/J; A=A/J) recombinant inbred (RI) strains. A panel of 789 polymorphic marker were used for the genome scan. Parental strain SM/J exhibits significantly higher serum adiponectin concentrations and significantly lower body mass index (BMI), liver weight, and serum cholesterol compared to parental strain A/J.

Suggestive linkage to serum adiponectin concentration mapped to 37 cM on mouse Chromosome 7 near D7Mit250 (LOD=2.8). This interval spans 27.8 cM to 37 cM (52.8 Mb - 61.7 Mb) between D7Mit297 and D7Nds1). The A/J-derived allele at this locus confers increased serum adiponectin concentration. Nr2f2 (formerly Arp1) at 33 cM is a potential candidate gene for this locus.

A second locus for serum adiponectin mapped 54 cM on mouse Chromosome 7 near D7Mit7 (LOD=2.3). This interval spans 54 cM to 66 cM (unknown - 124 Mb) between D7Mit7 and D7Mit10. The A/J-derived allele at this locus confers increased serum adiponectin concentration.
