Linkage analysis was performed on 75 LXS recombinant inbred (RI) strains to identify QTLs associated with 2 ethanol-induced phenotypes: low dose activation and loss of righting response (LORR) after high dose injection. Animals were tested in 3 independent cohorts between 55 and 85 days of age. Combining data from cohorts generally resulted in reduced QTL effect size.

Significant linkage to LORR mapped to 46.1 cM on mouse Chromosome 1 near D1Mit30 in all 3 cohorts (maximum LOD=3.07). This locus is designated Elorr1 (ethanol induced loss of righting response 1).

Significant linkage to LORR mapped to 62.5 cM on mouse Chromosome 3 near D3Mit127 in cohort 1 (maximum LOD=3.63). This locus is designated Elorr2 (ethanol induced loss of righting response 2).

Significant linkage to low dose activation mapped to 36.6 cM on mouse Chromosome 11 near D11Mit310 in cohort 1 (maximum LOD=3.36). This locus is designated Elda1 (ethanol induced low dose activation 1).

Significant linkage to low dose activation mapped to 53 cM on mouse Chromosome 13 near D13Mit291 in cohort 2 (maximum LOD=2.98). This locus is designated Elda2 (ethanol induced low dose activation 2).

Suggestive linkage to LORR mapped to 49.7 cM on mouse Chromosome 8 (D8Mit200, LOD=2.2), 52 cM on mouse Chromosome 14 (D14Mit228, LOD=2.56), and 97.1 cM on mouse Chromosome 18 (D18Mit128, LOD=2.56). Suggestive linkage to low dose activation mapped to 24.3 cM on mouse Chromosome 7 (D7Mit158, LOD=2.55) and 55 cM on mouse Chromosome 19 (D19Mit86, LOD=2.87).
