  Strain NFS.C is congenic (c+, Hbb-s derived from C58/Lw). From the cross NFS/N x (NFS/N x NFS.C), 3 colored offspring were tested and contained provirus sequence (Emv23) and 3 albino offspring did not. In the cross (NFS/N x NFS.C)F2, 1 colored offspring was tested and contained the Emv23, 1 albino tested did not. 164 mice from the backcross were tested for Hbb; 4 recombinants were assayed for Emv-23. 2 c/c Hbb-s/d were negative and 2 +/c Hbb-d/d were positive. Thus in 12 informative mice no recombination was detected between c and Emv23 and Emv23 is implied to be closer to Tyr than to Hbb.
